Damage to your RV while out on vacation happens, but you want to get the vehicle looked after as soon as possible. When there is damage to the exterior of the RV, this could mean that the structure is compromised.
You want to make sure that the frame isn't damaged, and that the RV is at risk of having complications while driving it down the road. Here are a few of the things you'll want to discuss with the body repair team when you take it to be assessed.
Drivability
The shop will most likely do an assessment of the bodywork that needs to be done, and then let you know if there are damages that go beyond bodywork. This means damage that is mechanical and that will need to be repaired for the vehicle to be drivable and safe. You may have a dent on a gas tank, frame damage that has made a windshield loose, or other types of complications that make driving it a risk.
Quote
Evaluate the quote to see if there is a set price. If the body shop says that they aren't sure how long it may take to repair certain areas, meaning that the quote may change, it isn't a bad idea to get a second quote or opinion. This allows you to get two comparable prices and to see if one of the body shops is overpriced. If you are planning on using your insurance to make this claim, they may require more than one quote before they will pay.
Changes You Want
If there are any changes you want to make to your RV, this is the time to do it. This could be anything like:
- Getting the windows tinted
- Changing the paint color
- Adding custom decals to the exterior
- Installing custom lighting
When you are at a body shop that can do these types of things, consider any of the changes that you want.
If you were on the road and your RV has since experienced auto body damage, you want to get it in as fast as you can so you can make sure that it is safe. This way there aren't any risks for you as a driver or for others that are on the road with you. Get multiple quotes so you can find a median cost and so you can see which auto body shop can get you the parts that you need fast.
